New York Plan for Pre-Existing Conditions

Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan: New York

In August, eligible residents of New York will be able to apply for coverage through the state’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan program run by Group Health Incorporated (GHI).

To qualify for coverage:

You must be a citizen or national of the United States or lawfully present in the United States.

You must have been uninsured for at least the last six months before you apply.

You must have had a problem getting insurance due to a pre-existing condition.

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan will cover a broad range of health benefits, including primary and specialty care, hospital care, and prescription drugs. All covered benefits are available for you, even if it’s to treat a pre-existing condition.

Premium: Approximately $400 to $600 per month
Deductible: To be determined
Out of Pocket Limit: To be determined

Applications for Early Retiree Reinsurance Program Now Being Accepted

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (OCIIO) today announced that it will begin accepting applications for the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP). This program is a part of the recently enacted Affordable Care Act. Reimbursement would go directly to your employer or union who you will have to convince them to continue carrying you on their policy until you are able to get coverage from Medicare or social security.

The following is the news release from the Department of Health announcing that employers and unions can now make application to participate in the program.
